Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel were called at around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday morning to the I-270 ramp to Sam Eig Highway, where there was a reported single-car crash with a car in the woods.

A department spokesperson said that it is likely that the driver had a medical emergency while pressing on the gas while the passenger attempted to steer their car to avoid other vehicles before losing control on the ramp and crashing in the woods.

Two people had to be extricated from the destroyed car and were hospitalized, one with what were reported as traumatic injuries. Their condition was not available later on Thursday morning.

The crash led to a ramp closure for about two hours until it was reopened at around 11 a.m.

No additional information was released by officials. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
